Build an expanded noun phrase by choosing words that fit a clue. This Year 2 English game practises one useful pattern: the, two describing words, then a noun. The lesson shows other ways to expand a noun phrase too.
Imagine a small boat with a red sail. “The small boat” gives detail before boat. “The boat with the red sail” identifies it with detail after boat. Both phrases are built around the noun boat.
Now put one phrase into a sentence: “The boat with the red sail crossed the lake.” The phrase names the boat; “crossed the lake” tells us what it did. One useful adjective can expand a noun phrase. Two adjectives and a comma are not a rule for every expanded noun phrase.
Do not choose the longest description just because it is longer. Useful detail must fit the clue and help the reader picture or identify the noun.
Describe something you can see without naming it first. Ask someone to choose what you mean, then explain which words helped. Use the matching lesson and worksheet for your own phrases and sentences.
