Use Time Language
Start here
Focus on months seasons and days of the week vocabulary. Start with “Answer a Mixture of Question on Time”, then explain the idea in your own words.
Understand the key idea
Time language helps us describe when something happens and put events in order. The seven days repeat each week, the twelve months repeat each year, and the four seasons follow a regular yearly cycle.
Common mix-up
A missing day or month is found from its position in the sequence, not from the first letter of its name. Say the sequence aloud and use the known item before and after the gap.
Try this first
- Say the complete day, month or season sequence aloud.
- Find the known item immediately before and after the missing position.
- Use words such as before, after, yesterday, tomorrow, morning and afternoon to describe the timing.
Ask: What comes immediately before and after this day or month, and how do you know?
Year 1 learners practise months seasons and days of the week vocabulary.
The activities include Answer a Mixture of Question on Time, Find the Missing Day, Find the Missing Month, and related practice. The checked support below includes video, worksheet, lesson pack, lesson. Open a resource in its provider's website and choose the format that best helps the learner explain the idea independently.
